Gulf Coast Cycle & Tri

Allison Watts Doize

Birthday:  March 25

Favorite Local Triathlon:  So far I would say Sri Tri.  Last year was my first tri season and I felt it extremely helpful to participate in the Mere Mortals training every Sunday... which just so happens to be on the SRI TRI course.  I had to learn the hard way though that I have to be able to change a tire!

Bucket List Race:  Hmmmmmmm...  ask me this again in a couple years.

Must-Have Gear:  With us being in Florida with high humidity I always wear a GCCT trucker hat or visor to keep sun & sweat out of my eyes.  I also make sure to wear a Road ID.

How I Got Into This:  A close friend of mine talked me into doing a half marathon a couple years ago.  Training was a NIGHTMARE.  Why are we doing this to ourselves I thought.  Then I crossed the finish line - HOOKED!  I continued running, racing all the local 5ks, 10ks, and then a marathon that same year.  Then the boredom hit.  My husband started cycling and I followed.  We would do what we thought were long rides and I wouldn't dare ride off the side walk!  I finally warmed up and he gave me a road bike.  I did the Pensacola Triathlon and again ... HOOKED!

Favorite Part of a Tri:  I honestly have equal love and hate for each part.  The bike seems to take the least effort though.

Goals:  Since it's my second season I'd like to PR in everything!  duh

Nutrition Advice:  I'm horrible at nutrition because when I'm in race mode I'm just flat out not hungry.  I stood at the beginning of my second half marathon and realized I hadn't eaten a thing!  Started to panic a little and downed a GU and told myself I'm good.  The reality is that nutrition IS super important.  For now I'm pretty simple - NUUN and GU's.  Both I get from the shop.

FYI:
I forget EVERYTHING!  So far in my tiny tri history, this has included my watch, compression sleeves, helmet, and bike shoes! (I know, I know. I've already printed off Tara's checklist.)
I have 2 daughters.  Hannah is 11 and Reagan is 9.  They are my sunshine!
We also have 7 back yard chickens and several raised bed vegetable gardens.

Day Job:  Dental Assistant (www.mysoutherndental.com)

Why GCCT Rocks:  Have you seen the new store!?!?  It's awesome.  They have everything you need.  Being new I also have plenty of random/silly questions.  My teammates have been so helpful.
