Gulf Coast Cycle & Tri

Jackie Kosakowski

Nickname:  Koz

Birthday:  August 9

Favorite Local Triathlon:  Three for different reasons:

  • Grandman because I love hills
  • Alabama Coastal because I like Olympic Distance
  • SRI TRI because it's my home course

Bucket List Race:  I have never actually thought about this ... I'd love to qualify for Boston again.

Must-Have Gear:

  • Special Ops polarized swim goggles - no glare swimming in the Gulf, fit me really well, don't leak
  • Lazer helmet - doesn't make me look like a Toad
  • Zoot 8" tri shorts - no sausage legs

How I Got Into This:  I've been a runner since 7th grade and started having too may injuries to keep track of.  I injured my Achilles so badly I didn't think I would be able to run again, so I bought a $300 road bike on craigslist and started riding loops in East Hill.  That lead to clip in shoes/pedals, a tri bike (Black Betty) I bought on consignment from GCCT, join gin Tri Gulf Coast + Mere Mortals, joining master's swimming, and eventually not being so injured that I am able to run fairly consistently again.  My first race was a Portofino sunset tri I think.

Favorite Part of a Tri:  Run for sure.

Goals:  I want to win a race or at least win my age group.  I've been second too many time.  I would like to actually finish a 70.3.

Nutrition Advice:  The night before a race I always have steak and beer.  My best race last year was after my husband and I split a 32-oz porterhouse steak, medium rare.  I haven't really raced any longer than Olympic distance so during a race is usually a couple shot books, water, and coconut water.  Post race I am a big believer in pizza and beer.

FYI:

  • I'm originally from Upstate NY and I had never been to NYC before I went to college.
  • I ran D1 cross country, indoor, and outdoor track at William and Mary
  • I have a  very fluffy white princess cat who is cross eyed.

Day Job:  I'm a Physical Therapist Assistant at West Florida Rehabilitation Institute.

Why GCCT Rocks:  Every other bike store I go into is intimidating... either they think girls don't really ride or that you should already know everything there is to know about tikes.  GCCT is the exact opposite!  I'm excited to be on the GCCTri team because I love being part of a team.  Everyone on the team is awesome, down to earth, and has fun.

2016 Race Schedule:
Uhh...TBD... I am a "sign up on Monday before the race" kind of person.  I am used to not planning things because of the amount of injuries I've had.  The only thing planned right now is Augusta in September.
